Tanzania Tourism Road Show kicked off in Hong Kong on Friday with an aim to promote Tanzania as a travel and investment destination for the mainland and city’s private sectors.

Tanzania, a country situated in the eastern Africa with a population of 56 million people, started its “friendship” with China dating back to more than 54 years ago. Last year, China ranked the eighth in terms of tourist number with more than 29,000 travelers visited this African country last year.

“We do believe the number of tourist from China will triple in the coming year,” said Devota Kasanda Mdachi, managing director of the Tanzania Tourist Board, at a Friday Road Show.

Co-organized by the Embassy of the United Republic of Tanzania in People’s Republic of China, the Honorary Consulate of the Tanzania in Hong Kong and Macao as well as the Tanzania Tourist Board, the event brought representatives from tourism, investment, trade sectors from Tanzania into the city to share Tanzania’s culture and natural beauty.

Annie Wu, honorary consul of the United Republic of Tanzania in Hong Kong and Macao, said “Tanzania and China have enjoyed excellent bilateral relations in the past 54 year.”

“From the Tanzania Zambia railway, our relationship continued to grow to greater heights; with all the exotic attractions and heritage culture as well as political stability in the country, Tanzania is set to be a favorite place for travelers and investors in Hong Kong,” she added.

Tanzania Zambia railway, a bi-national railway connecting the Southern Africa Regional transport network to Eastern Africa’s seaport, is a symbol of friendship between China and Tanzania.

Endowed with some of Africa’s best natural sceneries, such as the Great Plains of the Serengeti and Mount Kilimanjaro, tourists have chance to enjoy the spectacular animal migration view and also visit the roof of Africa and Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania.

As one of the participating countries in the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by China, Tanzania invites investment and partnership in the areas of resources, market and efficient seeking industries, petrochemical and energy tensive industries, food processing industries as well as hospitality industries, said Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism’s Deputy Permanent Secretary Aloyce Kashindye Nzuki during the road show.

After being held in Hong Kong, the road show will land in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Beijing later.
